Mountain Top Cabin ~ BURNED ~ January 4th, 2010

BEFORE                                                                            CURRENTLY

It was a winters afternoon like any other, cold & windy with a good snow/ice cover on the ground.  Ashley & Kelly along with Robert Richardson were going up on the ridge to gather firewood.  Due to the snow they stopped to put chains on Robert's truck and hear fire alarms coming from the direction of the cabin.  It was then that the peaceful mountain side quickly turned into a funnel of wind feeding a fast devouring fire!

At first notice the cabin was fine.  On second glance Ashley & Kelly could see smoke from the chimney and roof eves and that deadening ache immediately sank deep in both their chests.  Robert called in the emergency quickly with his rescue squad radio and though the Rugby Volunteer Fire Department had arrived with several fire truck within a matter of minutes the cabin was engulfed in flames!

It took less than 5 hours for the cabin to burn completely.  It even flared through the night due to the high winds but simmered most of the next day to eventually die all together.

We want to THANK GOD that no-one was hurt during the fire!

Though we are devastated and the future is unknown... we are grateful for an outpouring of support and love from our friends and cabin clients!  Our Rugby Vol. Fire Dept was truly a show of quick wit and force as they maneuvered the heavy tankers up the slick and currently dangerous (due to snow and ice) cabin driveway.  They proved their determination to be the best and help no matter the conditions.  We are deeply thankful for their service to us personally and their continued service in our community!
